The portable media player developed by Apple has made quite a name for itself since it was released back in October 2001. People all over the world took to the iPod’s looks and functionality and soon enough the device became hugely popular. Definitely more popular than what longtime Apple rival Microsoft had to offer – the Zune.

If you have an iPod, you can use the device to, well, listen to music while on your way to work, while working out, while having a walk, anywhere while on the go. Simply download music onto your PC, transfer it to your iPod and enjoy. If you have an iPod you might give CasiCakes-developed application a shot.

The application I am talking about is called iPod2PC. It weighs in at little over 2MB, so downloading it should take but a moment on a high-speed internet connection. Installing the application shouldn’t be a problem and it should take but a moment as well.

What can you do with iPod2PC once it has been installed on your Windows-powered computer? You can use it to copy all your favorite tracks from your iPod back to your Windows-powered computer. Or, if you want to transfer your music to another PC (not the one you have at home, say the one you have at work, or at your significant other’s place), you can use iPod2PC.

If you decide to give iPod2PC a shot, you can do so by downloading the demo. By putting the demo version of iPod2PC though its paces you should get a clear idea of the functionality this piece of software can provide. Be warned though that the demo version is limited. Until you register your iPod2PC version, you can only transfer half of a song (or songs) from your iPod to your PC.

In helping you select the file(s) you want to move back to your PC, iPod2PC comes with various sorting options – sort by name, sort by artist, sort by album, sort by year, and so on. Or you can search for a specific song, artist, album or filename. Transferring tracks from your iPod to your PC is a straightforward process. Simply check a few boxes, select a target folder where the tracks will be copied to, and let the software do its job.

• Works with XP and Vista, but doesn’t offer support for Windows 7, the latest iteration of the Microsoft-developed operating system
